Hi friends! Today I’m so excited to be partnering with Budget Blinds® to share the process of installing custom window treatments in our home. If you’re a reader of my blog, you’ll know that a year ago there were a few huge changes in my life. I got married to my high school sweetheart, found out that I was pregnant with our now 9-month-old son, Edwin, and my husband and I bought a 100-year-old house in Nova Scotia which, we moved into just months before our son was born.
We had big plans for renovating our home. But after realizing just how busy life with a baby is, and how costly renovations can be, we took a step back and have decided to slowly work away on the renovation process. So far, we have completely reimagined one of the upstairs bedrooms and turned it into a serene nursery for baby Edwin. We have also completed the dining room off the kitchen downstairs.
Both of these projects had a lot of time and effort poured into them but the one thing that was missing from each room was custom window treatments. I’ve read countless times that custom window treatments truly make a room, but I didn’t realize just how true that statement was until seeing it for myself.
Truth be told, I was a novice when it came to things like blinds, draperies, shades and all of the little details that go into making windows truly customized.
Luckily, I was recently given the chance to have design consultant, Tracey from Budget Blinds come to our home to take us through the process of having custom window coverings designed and installed. One of the things I love about Budget Blinds is that they offer free in-home consultations. I booked my consultation and the lovely Tracey came to our home chock full of knowledge and a great personality to boot. She knew absolutely everything there is to know about window treatments and answered all of the questions I had, easily and confidently.
Whenever I had an idea about what type of window treatments I wanted, she was able to quickly show me the options I had available and how they would look. Tracey was also able to examine the windows in each of the rooms we were having coverings put in. She looked at the style of each of the rooms and suggested what type of treatments she could offer in my style that would work with our 100-year-old home windows.I felt so cared for and confident in what I was choosing because Tracey was so knowledgeable. I really felt as though she took the time to care for me and my needs and offered me a customized experienced that was designed for the way we live. I actually believe that Tracey was just as excited as I was about how our windows were going to look when she was finished with them!
So, you might be wondering what exactly we chose for the window treatments!?
For the dining room we really wanted to up the wow factor, so we went with Signature Series®motorized roller shades. The roller shades we chose were a neutral colour but instead of going with the traditional smooth roller shade we chose woven shades. They added unexpected texture to the dining room which I loved.Budget Blinds are leaders in the smart home technology space. They offer automated and motorized solutions at every price point to give an effortless convenience in controlling window coverings with the touch of a button. Our dining room is now fully automated, and I can use the Somfy app directly on my tablet or phone to control our shades. It is so cool!
To add more dimension and elegance to the dining room, we chose to install custom white linen drapery with black grommets and custom black metal finials over the roller shades. We also had 2 pillows made in the same linen as our drapes. I love that they now sit pretty on the chairs at our dining table. The final look was so stylish, When I saw the completed custom window coverings, I was truly at a loss for words. Our dining room now feels complete and so beautiful.Baby Edwin’s nursery was such a fun project for me to design and I knew that I wanted window treatments that felt like they belonged there all along. Edwin previously had some inexpensive store-bought window coverings in his room to keep light out, but they weren’t practical for a growing baby who will soon start pulling on everything. With that in mind, Tracey and I decided that the best option for Edwin’s nursery would be Roman shades. I chose Flat white Roman shades with grey edge banding to add a little something extra. The shades also have a room darkening lining which is ideal for nap time. The shades are also cordless, so I no longer have to worry about my son tugging on cords in his room. I love how the Roman shades in Edwin’s room look, they are so classic and timeless and will grow with him for years to come.I also decided to get a few custom pillows made for Edwin’s room to match the Roman shades. They’re the sweetest addition to his room and I’m sure Edwin will love to use them when he is a little older.
As for the installation process, it was a breeze! I was delighted that the Budget Blinds install team that showed up had absolutely everything they needed. They were extremely professional and even waited for my baby to be finished with his nap before they headed up to his nursery to install the Roman shades. The Budget Blinds team completed both our dining room and Edwin’s room in just under 2 hours!
I absolutely loved my experience working with Budget Blinds. They truly offer styles and services for every budget. There are so many options to choose from and their design consultants are so knowledgeable and friendly. I also love that the design consultation is free, so you have nothing to worry about. I will always recommend Budget Blinds to anyone looking for custom window coverings from here on out.
