Sensible layering. My one exception to my rule of leaving the house without a jacket after the first of November. I can say with complete confidence that if you can master the art of effortless layering, you have mastered what many perceive to be an extremely intimidating task. Let’s start with the basics. Everyone has a chambray shirt in their closet, if you don’t, you probably have a collared dress shirt of some sort that you default to in the morning when you can’t decide what to wear (this Joe Fresh denim button down is mine). After you have buttoned up your go to button down, it’s time to add those layers! Begin with a sweater, preferably one that has more weight if you are going sans-jacket. The sweater should be a little cropped, and have a crew neck as so that your bottom layer will peak through. Finally, to get that effortless, J.crew esque look, add a third later, like this puffer vest. Finally, roll up your sleeves, leave the bottom layer half tucked so that only one side is sticking out, and add a statement necklace. When all that is said and done, I strongly suggest you add a fun hat and a pair of mittens to keep you even warmer and to add a little whimsy to your J.crew catalogue worthy look! If you have some basic guidelines to follow when layering it can be so much fun, so I say just give it a go, and you will be stylish and warm all season!
