DIY | seagrass hanging planters
26/04/2016
james and i went to ikea last weekend YAY. we officially went to grab some bedroom furniture but i couldn't help but add a few extras into the trolley as we headed around the store.. it's impossible not to right?
aside from a stash of plants and candles i picked up some cute seagrass baskets. i figured they'd be a fun little ikea hack- hanging planters! it's crazy easy and i love how they turned out.
materials:
jute string
bin liners or pond lining
scissors
1. cut off a long length of string (mine was 2m.) use a knitting needle or knife to pry open a gap in the basket and thread one end of the string through. pry open a second hole 1-2cm along and thread through the remaining end. grab both ends of the string and pull them level.
repeat 2-3 times depending on the width/size of the basket.
2. spread some glue on the inside of the basket and cover with plastic- i've used a bin liner here but you could also use pond lining. i'm planting succulents which require little water so this is just to prevent any moisture affecting the basket!
3. collect all the ends of string and pull them together to meet. tie in a knot and hang the planter from a hook or nail!
i want to fill my spare room with lots of unvarnished wood, woven baskets and a million plants so these will be a perfect addition!
have you been to ikea recently? we set off early to beat the weekend rush and arrived just as it opened, i never knew they served breakfast?! (kinda sad i didn't stick around long enough for afternoon meatballs but i guess that's a reasonable excuse to go back..?)
would you be tempted to try these?
