Lilac Nails with Sparkle Tips

April 1, 2014

_MG_0151 copyI am not the girl who goes and gets manicured on a regular basis. Not that I don’t enjoy it every once in a while, but for the most part I find it too pricy for the amount of time that the service lasts. Although getting my nails done at a salon is a rare occasion, I do always like to have polished nails as it looks exactly that…polished. This week, instead of swiping on a couple of coats of one colour of nail polish I decided to brighten things up by adding sparkle tips. I found the end result to look just as good as if I had gotten it done at a salon and it was so easy! Keep reading to see how I did these pretty spring nails

Untitled-1Step 1: Begin by applying 2-3 coats of nail polish (I used essie Lilacism). Make sure you allow the coats to dry completely before applying the next. Once the final coat is completely dry, stick a reinforcement label just below the tip of your nail, making sure to get each sticker as even as possible.

_MG_0039Step 2: Using your tray, pour a good amount of silver glitter into it, making sure that you will not have to add more in the middle of application, that could get messy!

_MG_0086Step 3: Using your topcoat swipe a thin layer of it above the top of the sticker. Don’t worry if  you get some on the sticker as it will still come off easily.

Step 4: Dab a good amount of sparkles onto your brush so that when you apply them to your nail they will easily fall off the brush. Continue to dab sparkles onto your nail pressing down gently until they are completely adhered and covered. Make sure that you do one nail at a time as the top coat will dry quickly. Remove sticker

Step 5: Swipe another top coat over the entire nail to seal in the pain and the sparkles.

Step 6: To salvage the remaining bit of sparkles left in your tray, use the funnel to gently pour them back in the container.

3 Ways to Style a Long Bob

March 25, 2014

TITLE
Untitled-1

I have wanted to do a post on my new lob since I chopped my hair off a few weeks ago. But after the last two weeks with unexpectedly flying home and fashion week, many of my posts have gotten pushed back. So finally here we are! I went for this cut after seeing a picture of Kate Mara’s amazing lob a few days prior and I immediately decided I needed a change. When my hair stylist made the first chop, I’ll admit I freaked out a lot but once she was complete I was obsessed. The cut is so easy to wash and styling it takes half the time it took when my hair was below my shoulders (although it was hard to get the hang of the curling iron at first). Since I have had my new haircut I have been experimenting with ways to style it and so far loose beachy waves, a quirky up-do and a straight and sleek look have all been on heavy rotation. Even though I am styling these looks specific to my lob, I still suspect they could all work with any length of hair!

STEP1BEACHY
1. Bumble and Bumble Surf Shampoo
2. Bumble and Bumble Surf Conditioner
3. Wide Tooth Comb
4. Hair Clip
5. 1 1/4″ Curling Iron
6. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray

To Get the Look:

Begin by using a volumizing/beach effect shampoo and conditioner (B&B Surf collection is my pick). After you are out of the shower comb and blow dry hair throughly. Begin by parting hair in the middle and clip up half of the hair. Wrap sections of hair that are about 1/2″-1″ thick at the root of the hair. Make sure to leave the ends of your hair unwrapped so that they fall naturally at the bottom. Once you release the curl, gently pull the bottom of the section you wrapped straight down. This will loosen up the curl and give you that natural looking wave.  One the bottom section of hair is complete, release the clip and repeat this process until finished. Gently shake your hair and spray B&B Surf Spray to finish.

1. Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Extender (or dry shampoo)
2. Paddle Brush
3. Wide Tooth Comb
4. Hair Clip
5. Clear Hair Elastics

To Get the Look:

Begin with hair that was shampooed a day before as when styling messy buns texture is key. To get rid of any unwanted oil spray a dry shampoo like Redkens Pillow Proof onto a brush and brush hair throughly. Part hair in a semi-circle just above the top of your ears and clip the top part of the hair. Take an elastic and make a pony tail with the remaining bottom of your hair. Un-clip the top part of the hair and tip head upside down and gather all of your hair into a clear elastic. Use a second clear elastic and create a messy bun. release the bottom posy tail and comb hair. Finish by gently pulling the hair and a few pieces out from the sides to give it that “just rolled out of bed look”.
edgy
1. Redken All Soft Shampoo
2. Redken All Soft Conditioner
3. Redken Two Smooth Serum
4. Wide Tooth Comb
5. Hair Clip
6. Fashion Bobby Pins

To get the Look:

For this look you will want to hair as sleek as possible without making it look greasy so begin with a softening shampoo and conditioner like Redkens All Soft. After hair is combed use a serum that will reduce fly aways and leave your hair feeling soft and sleek. Straighten hair in sections making sure there are no creases. Slightly curve the hair straightener inwards toward the neck at the front giving the style some shape. Once hair is straightened, tuck one side of hair behind your ear and secure with to bobby pins. You can also spray the hair with a small amount of hairspray to keep the pins in place (optional).

{Cupcakes in so many fun flavours and colours for a recent photo-shoot that was put together in my kitchen.}

This week has been the first week that I have been “working” in the last month and a half. Since I’ve broken my foot it has been nearly impossible for me to stand for long periods of time, let alone get around by myself (que amazing boyfriend). I am so lucky that my foot is on the mend and that it started just in time for fashion week as I had so much fun last year that I really didn’t want to miss out this season! Although I haven’t been attending all of the shows like I did last season I am getting to see all of my favourite Canadian designers and I am throughly impressed with what they are showing, I mean I literally had goosebumps for Kim Newport Mimran’s Pink Tartan show on Wednesday and I have a feeling that Maison Matthew Gallagher will have that very same effect tonight! Have a great weekend everyone, see you monday.
