Open City Halifax

May 14, 2013

This past Saturday was “Open City” Halifax. If you’re not quite sure what that is well, prepare to be salivating! Over 100 local businesses around the downtown Halifax area participate in an open house- meet the neighbours type of event. Restaurants (where I mainly went) have a “BackDoor Takeout” policy which means that yes, you literally go around back and purchase (for discounted price) mouth watering pre-selected items. And the restaurants are some of Halifax finest (CUT, Chives Bistro, Stories, and many many more.) It is a day to try new food and support local businesses which is something we all should do! Other things to note are retail boutiques such as Biscuit General Store, who gave 25% off your purchase when you shared the item on social media, and Wildflower Clothing who had a beautiful setup of gourmet cupcakes and mimosas with a generous 20% off your purchase. Museums and Theater (Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Neptune) were also offering discounts.  For this being my first time at Open City I have to say it was a great experience, trying new things and laughing with great people really made the day special. I highly recommend to you all to do this next year, and if you did it this year, what were your favorite parts? (mine were the Seared Scallops at Stories, and the Rhubarb Sour at Chives!) If you want to check out more about the event and more visit I Love Local Halifax.

Scarf Print Pants

May 13, 2013

Sometimes the last thing you want to do when getting dressed is, well that exactly, get dressed. A loose cotton top and pyjama-esque bottoms are probably the best option if you still want to look like you have some style. These scarf print pants that I scooped up on sale at zara (similar here) are the perfect compromise for the days when you want to feel comfy. Add a leather jacket for a chic street style look.
