#BIGLOVEBALL

July 24, 2014

1

After I was finished work on Tuesday night I stepped outside onto the streets of the Distillery District and walked right into big love balls. I know that sounds extremely weird but it is true! There were two huge balls with the words LOVE right across them. I thought they were the coolest idea, but had no idea what they were for. Luckily for me I got to speak with the designer Wendy Williams Watt. She informed me that these balls were originally designed in Vancouver and meant to spark dialogue with the community. The balls were so well received that they have been travelling all over Canada, bringing people together and saying “I am. I’m in. I do.”  I also learned that one of my favourite Canadian interior designers and bloggers Jillian Harris (The Bachelorette) loves this idea, so you know if she loves it then I am all over it!

How to Stack Rings Like a Pro

July 8, 2014

1

Learning how to stack rings can be difficult, so I have teamed up with Blossom Lounge to de-bunk the “less is more” myth by showing you how to stack rings the right way. I absolutely love the jewellery that blossom lounge carries, and knew their rings would be the perfect jewels to use to show you how to stack. Although there are many ways to go about stacking rings, I have come up with a few basic rules to get you started on creating your very own ring party! Read below to see my tips and make sure to head over to www.blossomlounge.com or in store for all the pretty rings shown here today!

Freshly painted and un-chipped nails are the first step in making sure that your rings look stylish. Blossom Lounge has a great selection of colours from Butter London, and I am loving this bright pink shade called Kerfuffle for the summer.

3

Begin by picking rings that are in different shapes and sizes and make sure to balance out each hand by placing and spacing rings out on different fingers. Once you like what your first layer of rings looks like move to the mid finger rings.

4

Play with mixing metals and textures for your midi rings. We love the double snake midi ring from Jenny Bird for its serpent skin texture, and wrap around style. The Dogeared feather and triangles are also great as you can switch the triangles in opposite directions and the feather gives added texture.

5

Once you have finished putting and placing all of your main rings on your fingers grab a few simple rings (H&M has some cheap and basic ones) in mixed metals and place them wherever you think your fingers could use a little more love. Make sure to leave some white space, keeping at least one finger bare on each hand.

Caprese Grilled Cheese

June 11, 2014

1 copy

The last couple of days have been crazy busy since this little fella has come into our lives, so creating time consuming recipes is currently out of the question. However, just because full course meals aren’t happening in our home doesn’t mean that elevating a basic isn’t. Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches might just be one of my all time favourite things to eat, so when inspiration stroke after staring at my basil plant thinking of what I could cook last night, I knew that this Italian inspired salad would be perfect inside an ooey, gooey, grilled cheese. And let me just say, it did not disappoint!

Ingredients:
1. 15-20 fresh basil leaves
2. 10 fresh, organic grape tomatoes
3. 1-2 fresh, organic vine ripened tomatoes
4. Olive oil
5. Fresh bread (I used fresh white bread from the grocery stores bakery department)
6. Butter
7. Fresh mozzarella
8. 6-10 baby spinach leaves

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1: Butter both sides of bread, set aside.
Step 2: To make pesto, blend together grape tomatoes, basil, spinach, olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Spread onto opposite side of bread.
Step 3: Pre heat stove on medium low and slice mozzarella cheese and vine ripened tomatoes. Construct sandwich and cook on each side for 3-4 minutes, flipping occasionally until golden brown.
